My mum was in touch with your mum years ago. She sent mum photoes of you racing. Mum was Rosebell Tomes from Stone in Buckinghamshire. We are related through an ancestor Kate Mullins. Mums gone now and I just wanted to connect. So much I don't know about our family.

RIP Justakeg. What the teenager was still doing on a racecourse is anybody's guess! The poor old boy was clearly not meant for horse racing; hence him being beaten by miles at huge prices for his whole career! Some may say it was still relatively early days for Boxcar Molly but she too had shown she was never going to win races before her sad demise. I seem to remember reading that in certain parts of America, horses who have never won and keep getting beaten out of sight are suspended from racing until they prove that they can run a certain distance in a certain time away from the track. I'd love that to happen in Ireland and Britain because it would save a lot of time, money and effort and horses' lives too! How can an owner possibly get enjoyment out of seeing their horse finish at the back or not finish at all and pick up little or no prize money? You'd be better off paying for a nice retirement home for them rather than pointless training fees! Justakeg ran 20 times and won just £904. That's just over 45 quid per race! Boxcar Molly ran 13 times and won just £365. That's about 28 quid per race!

Over 100 healthy Irish horses are executed for being too slow to win races every year, so it's always a concern when you hear that a below-average horse has died away from the track in unknown circumstances, as it makes you think they could be one of the unfortunate 100+. If anyone knows how Spoilt For Choice, Snake Oil and Ballycorus died, please let me know because I'd love to be told they had an illness or an accident and weren't cruelly murdered for their meat. Surely there's enough money in racing to let these poor horses have a nice retirement rather than a brutal, needless execution!
